Daytrip WeltWald Harz

The Harz is the biggest mountain region of North Germany.

Close to the city of Bad Grund is an arboretum called WeltWald Harz. It is a nice secret hint for tree lovers and anyone who enjoys being out in the nature. In an area of 65ha, over 600 different species of trees and bushes from all over the world are growing, allowing visitors to learn about them.

Initially, the park was created to observe how these plants from other parts of the world would adjust and develop in a new climate.

What’s special about the park, is that instead of planting individual tress, good care was taken by planting entire woodland communities together from the original climatic region. Little plates are mounted, indicating the name of different species.

When I went there, I was astonished to find so many interesting constellation and combination of greens worth taking pictures of.

I would recommend visiting this park as a (half-)daytrip, especially for families with children who are thrilled to discover nature. Short loopy routes offer the possibility to easily vary the time to stay.
